Foreword

Janice TSE

This year marks the 72nd Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. It is also a year packed full of events, celebrations and achievements. Our nation has gained victory in the fight against poverty and declared success in building a fairly well-off society. The successful launch of the manned Shenzhou-12 spacecraft and its docking with the Tianhe core module are a key milestone in our country’s development of aerospace technology. The Chinese National Team shone in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games, bringing home numerous medals. These outstanding achievements are a real testament to the strength of our country, in which all Chinese can take pride.

Over the past two years, Hong Kong has faced unprecedented challenges. Thanks to the strong support of the Central Government, our city has gradually overcome the adversities and restored social stability. It is proved that the Pearl of the Orient will continue to shine as long as we fully and accurately implement the principle of “One country, Two systems”, remain committed to upholding the “One country” principle while leveraging the advantages under the “Two systems”, and seize the opportunities brought about by such development plans as the Belt and Road Initiative and the 14th Five-Year Plan.

To commemorate the 72nd National Day, the Home Affairs Department has jointly organised a splendid series of events with community organisations for the public to enjoy in various districts. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all parties for their contribution in organising the celebrations and invite all members of the public to take part in the activities. Come and join us to share the fun and joy!
